Oak Creek/Red Rocks/Slide Rock/Old West History Approximately 13 miles south of town, you'll leave the lush pine forests of the high country for the spectacular inner regions of Oak Creek Canyon. There you will find famous Slide Rock State Park. Traveling not much further, you'll come into the town of Sedona and, just beyond, the Verde Valley. In Sedona you will find numerous shops and galleries in a dramatic red rock setting. Continue southwest to find the once-booming mining town, Jerome, which is now a haven for artists and a living museum to early industrial activity. Nearby you can visit Tuzigoot National Monument; Fort Verde State Historical Park (a restored U.S. Cavalry Fort); and the ancient and well-preserved cliffside ruins of Montezuma National Monument. |
