Coconino National Forest- The entire town is mostly surrounded by National Forest Service land within the Coconino National Forest. This cherished public land offers visitors and residents a wide array of activites for year round enjoyment.
The Arboretum at Flagstaff-At 7,150 feet in elevation, The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a unique destination with a unique mission, specializing in plants native to the Colorado Plateau and northern Arizona.
Lowell Observatory-Lowell Observatory is an independent, non-profit research institution located in Flagstaff, Arizona - the world's first International Dark-Sky City. The mission is to pursue the study of astronomy, especially the study of our solar system and its evolution; to conduct pure research in astronomical phenomena; and to maintain quality public education and outreach programs to bring the results of astronomical research to the general public.
Flagstaff Urban Trail System-The Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS, say "foots") is a city-wide network of non-motorized, shared-use pathways that are used by bicyclists, walkers, hikers, runners, and other users for both recreation and transportation.
At present there are about 56 miles of FUTS trails in Flagstaff.
First Friday Artwalk-First Friday ArtWalk is one of Northern Arizona’s premier arts events. Each first Friday of the month, art galleries and businesses in historic Downtown Flagstaff open their doors from 6-9pm with special art exhibitions, performances, live music, treats and much much more.
Arizona Snowbowl: Down Hill Skiing-Located on the majestic San Francisco Peaks at 9,500 ft. above sea level, Arizona Snowbowl lies just 14 miles outside of Flagstaff, 2 hours from Phoenix, and 70 miles from the Grand Canyon. Since 1938, Snowbowl has been the best destination in the state for skiing and snowboarding since the sport’s arrival in Flagstaff in the early 1900’s.
Flagstaff Nordic Center-Tucked into the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest about 15 miles from downtown Flagstaff, this Nordic oasis has most of the common attributes one would associate with a good cross country ski center anywhere else in the country. Flagstaff Nordic Center has a full 40km of non-redundant trails.
Flagstaff Snow ParkWing Mountain Snow Play Area is set on about 40 acres composed of natural cinder hills in Coconino National Forest that make for GREAT sledding. On top of sledding there is also plenty of space to build a snowman and make snow angels!
