Things To Do in Flagstaff This Weekend

Dress warmly!  Flagstaff’s popular First Friday ArtWalk is Friday evening — a monthly street party and celebration of the arts.  Art galleries and businesses open their doors from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., with special art exhibitions, performances, live music, treats and much more. Many downtown hot spots remain open after 9:00 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m. on Friday, catch 76th Street (aka: Haley and Spencer) at the amphitheater on Heritage Square during ArtWalk.  This dynamic singer/songwriter duo has performed in venues throughout the greater Phoenix area, and they are noted for their great energy and unique vocal talents.

On Saturday evening, the Grand Canyon Guitar Society hosts Czech classical guitarist Pavel Steidl in Concert.  His highly expressive performances of rare 19th-century guitar compositions on authentic instruments add a wonderful dimension to his already exceptional performances. A noted and respected composer, having performed in over 30 countries around the globe, Steidl often performs his own compositions as well.  At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (1601 N. San Francisco St.), 7:00 p.m.  $25 in advance, $30 day of show.

Have you thought about Christmas shopping yet?  Cromer School’s Annual Arts and Craft Fair is Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with over 40 vendors showcasing their arts, crafts, and baked goods.  Fair admission is free.  Booths available for $50 – contact [email protected].  (7150 Silver Saddle Road)

On Saturday morning, 10:00 a.m., Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona invites you to run, volunteer or be a Running Buddy to one of the girls at this End of the Season 5K Run at Buffalo Park.  Girls on the Run is a program for girls grades 3 – 8 that creatively integrates running with an interactive curriculum to inspire self-respect and healthy living. $30.

In conjunction with the Museum of Northern Arizona exhibit Trappings of the American West, award-winning photographer and author Tom Brownold hosts a presentation – The Grandest Ride: Grand Canyon’s Iconic Mules – about the sure-footed mules of the South Rim and their important transportation of supplies and visitors over the past century.  Brownold’s stories and photographs offer a fascinating glimpse into a special part of the Grand Canyon.  At the downtown Flagstaff – Coconino County Public Library, Saturday, 1:00 p.m.  It’s free.

Learn about the slippery reptile natives of Northern Arizona from garter snakes to rattlesnakes at the Museum of Northern Arizona’s Discovery 2nd Saturday: Southwestern Snakes.  View live snakes and even touch one if you choose. 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Free with museum admission.

The NAU Lumberjacks’ Women’s Volleyball team meets Southern Utah on Saturday 7:00 p.m. at the Rolle Activity Center (Pine Knoll Drive, Bldg. 68). Tickets are $3 – $5.

Northern Arizona’s beloved husband and wife psychedelic indie pop duo, Dutch Holly, returns to the stage at the Firecreek Coffee Company on Saturday, after a busy year of touring Arizona.  Dutch Holly is no stranger to Flagstaff, having played dates at the Green Room and Mia’s, with lineups of 4 to 6 players, but they’ve not appeared in their current psychedelic folk-tronica duo incarnation. Free at 8:00 p.m. (22 E. Route 66)

On Wednesdays through Saturdays through November 15th, tour Flagstaff’s most haunted places with an opportunity to pursue the spirits of Flagstaff using digital media on a Historic Flagstaff Ghost Orb Tour,  8:30 – 10:00 p.m.  Do you have the perfect camera?  If so, you can find out what your camera can really do to find the mysteries of the past.  With years of experience leading Downtown Flagstaff Haunted Tours, your guides will lead you to the haunted locations with tales of the spirits of the Flagstaff area.  Tours depart from the Flagstaff Visitors Center in the historic railroad station.  Adults $10, ages 7 to 17 are $7, and under 7 are free with adult.  Call (928) 814-7064 for reservations.
