On Friday, the Flagstaff Folk Project welcomes the international, husband and wife duo, Four Shillings Short, for an evening of Celtic and World Music. Hear a fantastic array of world instruments, including hammered and mountain dulcimers, Medieval and Renaissance woodwinds, mandolins, the Sitar from North India, tin whistles, recorders, banjo, guitar and more. With the delightfully surprising collection of songs and sounds they create, while stretching the limits of Celtic and folk music by stirring in generous amounts of Indian Ragas and Medieval flavorings, Four Shillings Short brings musical diversity, captivating storytelling and humorous side notes to create an amazing show.
Celebrating their 19th year together, Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland, and Christy Martin from California, the couple performs 150 concerts per year, living as full-time troubadours traveling from town to town. The Theatrikos Theatre Company is holding Auditions for Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure on Sunday and Monday at the Doris Harper-White Community Playhouse (11 W. Cherry Ave.), 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. both evenings. Scheduled to be presented January 30 – February 15, 2015, the play combines the story of how Sherlock meets Irene Adler, and has his final confrontation with his arch-enemy, Dr. Moriarty. Flagstaff Recreation Services holds its annual Turkey Bowl and ice skating event on Saturday afternoon in support of the Northern Arizona Food Bank at Jay Lively Activity Center (the ice rink, 1650 N. Turquoise Dr.). The Food Bank truck will be on hand if you’d like to donate a turkey. Free admission with the donation of any non-perishable food item.
